Oak Avenue (SR1931) and Wait Avenue (NC98 Business); two priority pedestrian corridors in Wake Forest. The construction of multi-use path would eliminate a .6 mile gap on W. Oak Avenue (SR1931): N. Wingate Street to Harris Road (SR1931). A .42 mile sidewalk/multi-use path would also be constructed to eliminate gaps on Wait Avenue (NC-98 Business): S. Allen Road to Hillside Nursing Home. A pedestrian signal will be added at the Wait Avenue/S. Allen Road intersection. We will link existing sidewalk and multi-use path connections to create a better bicycle and pedestrian network both east and northwest of downtown Wake Forest.  Blue Ridge Road and Wade Avenue Bridge SidewalksThis project will complete the preliminary engineering and design for the proposed replacement of the bridge at Blue Ridge Road and Wade Avenue. The design will include engineering of on-road bicycle lanes as well as raised pedestrian sidewalks along both sides, in addition to four travel lanes and a center turn lane to carry the high volumes of traffic turning onto Wade Avenue. Upon the completion of the preliminary engineering and design, the project will be programmed for construction and will provide safer transportation options for pedestrians and cyclists in the district.  New Bern Avenue Corridor ImprovementsThis project will complete the construction of the pedestrian improvements, streetscape amenities and transit improvements along New Bern Avenue from Tarboro Street to just west of Sunnybrook Road (4 miles). The improvements include the installation of 6-foot concrete sidewalks, street trees, street furniture, lighting, signage, relocation of overhead utility lines underground, and storm drainage system enhancements.  Western Boulevard/Avent Ferry Bicycle & Pedestrian TunnelThis project will complete the preliminary engineering and design for the proposed bicycle and pedestrian tunnel at Western Boulevard and Avent Ferry Road. The design will include engineering of a grade separated underground structure that includes sidewalks along both sides, in addition to a travel lane for cyclists. Upon the completion of the preliminary engineering and design, the project will be programmed for construction and will provide safer transportation options for pedestrians and cyclists to cross Western Boulevard that bisects the southern and northern campuses of North Carolina State University.  Durham Road Pedestrian ImprovementsPreliminary engineering, NEPA documentation, and design for pedestrian connections along Durham Road (NC98 Bus) a priority pedestrian corridor in Wake Forest. The proposed connections would eliminate a 1.6 mile gap from Durham Road (NC98 Bus): Richland Creek Plaza multi-use path terminus to Tyler Run Drive. A sidewalk extension from Durham Road along Cloverleaf Drive, will be included. The proposed project includes design for 969 lf multi-use path, 6,983 lf sidewalk, and pedestrian signals at five intersections along the roadway.
