Laura Duncan Road Pedestrian Improvement ProjectThe Laura Duncan Road Pedestrian Improvement Project alters the roadway design between Apex Community Park and North Salem Street to improve safety of pedestrians crossing Laura Duncan Road. The draft design for the project includes: -Resurfacing and restriping Laura Duncan Road from south of the Apex Community Park driveway to the railroad tracks parallel to North Salem Street. This redesign is intended to better use the space between existing curbs to provide a protected median for pedestrians crossing Laura Duncan Road and a lane for bicyclists traveling along Laura Duncan Road. In addition, a south-bound left-turn lane will be provided to Apex Community Park. This work will improve the crosswalk installed by the Town in August 2018, which is considered an interim solution to the pedestrian needs in this area. -Installing a new high-visibility crossing of Laura Duncan Road at Laurel Park Place with revised curb and gutter alignment, new sidewalk, detectable warning surfaces, concrete median island, and rapid flashing beacons. -Installing a standard two-bar crosswalk across Laurel Park Place at Laura Duncan Road. -The project is within existing right of way. These bicycle and pedestrian improvements include: -Complete construction of approximately 5,560 linear-feet of 10-foot asphalt, concrete, and boardwalk greenway along the Beaver Creek corridor between the Ashley Downs neighborhood and the Apex Nature Park. This includes realigning the greenway just east of the underpass of NC 540, where it is currently prone to flooding, and providing new grade-separated bicycle and pedestrian crossings at Kelly Road and Apex Barbecue Road. -Install concrete curb ramp and expand off street gravel parking at trailhead in the Greenbrier neighborhood, connecting to the approximate 210 linear feet of 10-foot asphalt connector trail. -Install approximately 525 linear-feet of 10-foot asphalt trail for the Kelly West neighborhood trail connector. -Install Town of Apex standard trash and recycle receptacles and dog waste stations. -Install Town of Apex standard Greenway wayfinding signage.  Junny Road Sidewalk ExtensionThe Town of Angier seeks to extend our existing sidewalk network in order to provide walkable connectivity to an under served area of town, as well as provide a connection between our ongoing NC 210 sidewalk extension and the neighboring low income area. This project will consist of design, engineering and construction for two 5' wide sidewalk sections which will include curb & gutter. The new sidewalk will provide a valuable link between several large residential developments on the Northeast side of Town and the Town core which includes the community pool, Jack Marley Park and Downtown Angier. The first section of new sidewalk will extend North along North Willow Street to Junny Road (850 ft.) and then Northeast along Junny Road to its intersection with Glen Meadow Drive (2,000 ft.). The second piece will extend roughly 1,100 feet West along West Lillington Street to its intersection with NC 210 (W. Depot St.).
